What is Intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting is also widely followed for weight loss. In this format of dieting, 8 hours out of 24 are for eating and fasting is done for 16 hours. However, liquid things like water, lemonade, coconut water, tea-coffee etc. can be consumed during this period.

Till now many people have benefited from this diet. According to research, intermittent fasting increases the risk of heart disease. Even death can occur due to heart disease.

Can intermittent fasting really harm the heart?

According to research, people who follow an eating window of less than 8 hours a day have a 91 percent risk of death from heart disease. Apart from this, people who are already suffering from any disease have a restricted eating window of 8 to 10 hours. Following the diet increases the risk of death from heart disease or stroke by 66 percent. An analysis of more than 20,000 American adults found that those who followed a time restriction eating plan limited their eating to less than 8 hours per day. They were more likely to die from heart disease than those who ate 12 to 16 hours a day.

Disadvantages of Intermittent Fasting:

  • According to experts, intermittent fasting is beneficial, but it becomes harmful when you are ill and are fasting for a long time. In such a body there is deficiency of nutrients.
  • The body becomes dehydrated.
  • Electrolyte balance starts deteriorating, due to which the risk of heart diseases increases.

If you have any kind of disease like sugar or heart disease, then you should give complete information about your condition to your dietician or health expert and do intermittent fasting only on their advice.
