Nobel Peace Prize 2025: María Corina Machado from Venezuela awarded “for promoting democratic rights”

María Corina Machado from Venezuela has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”.

  • On 10th September 2025, the Royal Swedish Academy announced that María Corina Machado from Venezuela has been awarded the Prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for her work in restoring stability and promoting democratic rights in Venezuela. 
  • The Royal Swedish Academy awarded María Corina Machado for her work in Venezuela, which is currently under the authoritarian rule of President Nicolás Maduro, where Freedom of Speech is being censored and the country is in a crisis. 
  • The Academy stated, “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.” A post with a sketched image of María Corina Machado.
  • Machado is a 58-year-old Industrial Engineer, former Deputy of the National Assembly of Venezuela, and activist. She went to Yale University and previously won the Vaclav Havel Human Rights Prize in 2024. In 2005, U.S. President George W. Bush welcomed her to the Oval Office. 
  • On her Social media handles, she accepted the award and dedicated it to the people of Venezuela. “En nombre del pueblo de Venezuela, GRACIAS (on behalf of the people of Venezuela), THANK YOU.”
