The Nobel Prize 2025 in Chemistry was presented to Scientists Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M Yaghi, for their groundbreaking work in the development of Metal-organic frameworks.
Three winners selected for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry
- On 8th September, the Royal Swedish Academy awarded three Scientists, Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M Yagh, i for their development of the development of metal–organic frameworks.
- These Scientists are from prestigious universities: Susumu Kitagawa from Kyoto University (Japan), Richard Robson from the University of Melbourne (Australia), and Omar M Yaghi from the University of California (US).
- They were awarded the prize for the development of a new type of molecular architecture. In 1989, Scientist Richard Robson experimented utilizing the inherent properties of atoms in a new manner; he merged positively charged copper ions with a four-armed molecule.
- This group was attracted to copper ions at each arm in the end, bonding perfectly. He was convinced that this discovery could be revolutionary, but it was futile. From 1992 to 2003, Scientists Kitagawa and Yaghi worked on this and created a stable foundation. They proved that gases could pass through structures and predicted that metal–organic frameworks could be modified.
- The Royal Swedish Academy called the discovery groundbreaking and predicted it is almost like a revolution in the field. Jacobus H. van 't Hoff won the first Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1901.
