KATSEYE nominated in two categories for Grammy Awards 2026, Receives hate

The international girl group KATSEYE has been nominated in two categories for the Grammy Awards 2026: Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The girl group has topped the charts with their songs like Touch, Gnarly, and Gabriela. 

KATSEYE nominated for Grammy Awards 2026

• The Recording Academy has released its nominations for the Grammy Awards 2026 to be held on February 1, 2026, in Los Angeles. The phenomenal girl group KATSEYE has found their place on the nomination list for two categories: Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. KATSEYE fans are overjoyed by the news, and they predict KATSEYE winning at least one of them, if not both.
• In the Best New Artist they have put KATSEYE against artists who have left an indelible impact on the musical landscape. They are Olivia Dean, The Marias, Addison Rae, Sombr, Leon Thomas, Alex Warren, and Lola Young, while in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, popular names in the industry have been nominated.

How did KATSEYE react? 

One of the members,Lara Raj, revealed how emotional the girl group was on hearing about their nominations for the prestigious Grammy Awards. “In seriousness, it feels so emotional because we’ve worked so hard, and our team has worked so hard. Everyone who has come together to create KATSEYE, we’ve put our genuine blood, sweat, and tears into this. It’s not everything, but it feels like everything,” said Lara. Group leader, Sophia LaForteza, said all the members watched the announcement live, and they are happy and look forward to celebrating the achievement with their mothers.

Why is KATSEYE receiving hate for the Nominations?

Not everyone is happy about the nominations of KATSEYE in two categories because they question “the choice of a newer act over more veteran artists who are already popular”. One user wrote, “For best new artist, it’s good, but how Gabriela got nominated for best pop duo/group, there were many before songs.” Another user commented, “Makes no sense their song was not even in the top 10 in any charts yet they are nominated.” Some even claimed their company HYBE “paid the way”. Their devoted fans came to the rescue with playful sarcasm. One fan picked up a catchy line from their song, gnarly and rephrased it as “J-J-Jealous of Nominations” and “KATSEYE so talented.”

Who is KATSEYE? 

KATSEYE is a global girl group consisting of six members: Sophia LaForteza (Filipina), Lara Raj (Indian-American), Daniela Avanzini (Venezuelan-Cuban), Manon Bannerman (Swiss-Ghanian), Megan Skiendiel (Chinese-Singaporean), and Yoonchae (Korean). They were formed from the Netflix reality show The Debut: Dream Academy, a collaborative venture of HYBE and Geffen Records. The six girls competed with 120000 applicants to secure their spot in KATSEYE in November 2023. They debuted on June 28, 2024, with their first digital single “Debut”.
