Since the day the US president ascended to the throne, he has been signing executive orders that he claims would be instrumental in making the US great again. From implementing unrealistically high tariffs over certain countries to dismantling the education department to reprimanding world leaders in his Oval Office, his approach in his 2nd term has been aggressive and radical. He has once again made headlines as he tells tech firms not to employ people from India and China, firmly pointing out the halt of hiring minds from overseas countries.
At an AI Summit that took place in Washington on Wednesday, Trump said that Americans must create jobs for their fellow countrymen instead of setting up factories in China and hiring workers from India. Trump went on to say that the globalist mindset of tech companies has led to joblessness in the country. “Many of our largest tech companies have reaped the blessings of American freedom while building their factories in China, hiring workers in India, and slashing profits in Ireland, you know, all the while dismissing and even censoring their fellow citizens right here at home.” “Under President Trump, those days are over. You know that everybody knows that we want you to put America first. You have to do that. That’s all we ask.”

He tells Google, Microsoft, and Meta not to hire Indians or build factories abroad. Critics say his policies threaten Indian professionals’ global aspirations and deepen racial bias in US politics. pic.twitter.com/7oIsn2yl6R
This comment comes after Trump previously disapproved of the setup of Apple factories in India and urged Tim Cook to drop the idea. Here's what he said:
“Apple, as you know, is coming in, and I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday. I said to him, Tim, you’re my friend. I treated you very well. You’re coming in with $500 billion, but now I hear you’re building all over India. I don’t want you building in India. You can build in India if you want to take care of India.”
Netizens have mixed reactions, with many calling the step profitable. Countries such as India have been facing tremendous brain drain for decades. These steps can help India instead, as they can bring back its people and utilize their capabilities in nation-building. Some of them have hilarious reactions, as Google's CEO Sundar Pichai is an Indian immigrant himself.
According to the stats, over 50% of startups in Silicon Valley are founded by business owners who are immigrants. Nearly 40% of PhD holders were born abroad, and are immigrants holding top positions in the country in fields like politics, business, education, science, and so on.
No more jobs for Indian tech workers," says President Trump.
