Sergio Gor, the U.S. Ambassador, came to India to reset and strengthen the bilateral ties between the United States and India. Gor has officially assumed his post and represents American interests in New Delhi. His visit could serve as a catalyst for improving bilateral relations. A special meeting has been arranged for both countries to discuss trade later on.
Sergio Gor landed in India on 9th January and assumed his post on 12th January. He was appointed by President Donald Trump himself last year, Gor revealed he made his first visit in 2013.
India-U.S. relations have been hitting rock bottom after the 50% tariff imposition by the U.S., and as it has negatively impacted the Indian industries all of a sudden. Sergio Gor was appointed in an attempt to improve the relations between the countries. Many deals could be signed in the meeting to be conducted, and he also announced India will be invited to join Pax Silica, a U.S.-led strategic coalition on silicon and semiconductor supply chains expected to be formalised next month.

"Many of you have asked me for an update on the ongoing trade deal negotiations. Both sides continue to actively engage. In fact, the next call on trade will occur tomorrow. India is the world's largest nation. So it's not an easy task to get this across the finish line, but we are determined to get there and while trade is very important for our relationship, we will continue to work closely together on other very important areas such as security, counter-terrorism, energy, technology, education, and health..."
Energy, Technology, Education and Health will be the key topics of the discussion and deals. Trump may visit India in a year or two, and the year 2026 will be the year of reciprocation, Sergio Gor. “I have travelled all over the world with President Trump, and I can attest that his friendship with Prime Minister Modi is real.” He said.
