Nitin Nabin, 45, the youngest BJP President

On 20 January 2026, Tuesday morning BJP announced its National President, Nitin Nabin, who is the youngest leader to assume the post. He is going to be the 12th president. The outgoing BJP president, JP Nadda and several other BJP leaders attended the ceremony, which was held at the headquarters in Delhi.

Key BJP leaders and Union Ministers, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, and Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri were present.

Nitin Nabin is the son of the late senior BJP leader and four-time Bihar Assembly legislator Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha. He entered politics in 2006. He is a Bihar government minister, and he has served as Minister of Road construction, Minister of Urban Development & Housing and Law & Justice in the Bihar state government.

Thirty-seven sets of nomination papers in support of Nabin were submitted to K Laxman, the returning officer for the election, on Monday. The BJP National President post was previously held by JP Nadda, who was appointed in 2020.

PM Modi congratulated Nitin Nabin on social media and said, "Congratulations to Shri Nitin Nabin Ji on becoming the BJP National President. His strong organisational and administrative experience will add significant value to our Party’s collective endeavour of fulfilling people’s aspirations.".

Congress did not leave this opportunity to taunt and ask why there was no election held, Congress MP Manickam Tagore says, "There is no democracy in BJP, only HM Amit Shah and PM Modi take the decisions and they have proved it again... What is the work of the returning officer when there is no election? We hold elections in Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor were candidates and voting took place. This is called democracy. PM Modi and Amit Shah want to take over the role of all the workers... BJP is an authoritative party and moving towards dictatorship... Even RSS is stunned to see this... We wish Nitin Nabin all the best..."
