US President Donald Trump, in an interview with CBS, has revealed that countries Pakistan, Russia, and China have been conducting nuclear tests without informing the world, and the US must pursue a similar endeavor, which rightfully prepares the country to defend itself against its enemies.
Donald Trump confirms Pakistan’s nuclear expansion plan
- U.S. President Donald Trump, who is known for his tactic of weaponizing tariffs, has made another shocking claim in a 60-minute interview conducted by CBS. He was questioned on various policies his government has brought in and the dismantling of certain departments. While speaking about his foreign policy, he talked about how he has excelled at it in stopping wars that continued for decades.
- One such topic was about nuclear weapons. Trump touched upon several issues that had been speculated about for a long time. Like the testing of nuclear weapons. Speaking in the interview, he stressed the idea of redeveloping and polishing the nuclear weapons of the United States to protect its borders and defend the country in times of external attacks.
- He revealed that countries like Pakistan have been testing their nuclear weapons, and they do it in the most secretive ways, somewhere underground. He said, “Pakistan has been testing. They don’t go and tell you about it. As powerful as they are, this is a big world. You don’t necessarily know where they’re testing. They test way underground.”
- He revealed “Russia’s testing and China’s testing, but they don’t talk about it, we are an open society and we are different. We talk about it; otherwise, you people are going to report. They don’t have reporters that are going to write about you.”
- He justified the US’s conduct of Nuclear tests while pointing towards countries like China, Russia, and North Korea, which had been doing the same. Later, Energy Secretary Chris Wright rephrased what Trump meant and said he talked about non-critical system tests, not the full-fledged Nuclear weapons.
- The United States’ nuclear testing had been put on hold since 1992, and Donald Trump seemingly looks forward to resuming it. The US put a moratorium (a voluntary halt) on full nuclear explosive tests. The US signed the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) in 1996, which bans all nuclear explosions.
