This marks the first appearance after Donald Trump's Comment on India being a dead economy, His anger stems from India’s Close relations with Russia, enemy of USA. On Refusing Trump’s Advice to Cancel Oil deals with Russia, he briefly targeted both countries on a X post.
PM Modi in a public gathering at his constituency Varanasi while addressing the crowd spoke about the need to promote swadeshi goods.
He said “As we talk about economic progress, I want to draw your attention to the current global scenario”. “The World economy is facing instability and uncertainty. In such times, countries are focusing solely on their own interests”.
“India, too, is on the path to becoming the world’s third largest economy and must remain alert to its own economic priorities”.
In the direction of Tariffs, he clarified “The government is doing Everything Possible in this Direction. But as citizens, we too have responsibilities”.
He promoted Swadeshi, which somewhere lost its growth. He stressed the need to promote indigenous goods as Indians irrespective of party and religion only if we aim to overtake Germany to become the third largest economy. “Must work in the nation’s interest and awaken the spirit of swadeshi among the people”
He asked consumers to be conscious of what they purchase and from what brand “Whatever we buy, we should ask ourselves– has an Indian Toiled to make this? If it has been made by the sweat of our people, with their skills, that product is Swadeshi for us. We must adopt the mantra of ‘vocal for locals’ .”

“The feeling of swadeshi in every action will define our future. This will also be a true tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Only through collective effort can we fulfil the dream of a developed India,” He asserted.
After Trump slaps 25% on India, the Indian government is in constant talks with the USA and simultaneously analysing its impact on the Indian economy. The studies have found that India is likely to face the impact more in the short term sense while the USA can face strategic disadvantages in the long run.
