Kerala High Court has demanded the screening of "The Kerala Story 2" after the release of the teaser. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas said the people of Kerala live in harmony, and the film has portrayed the state wrongly.
"The Kerala Story" was praised for its storyline and for presenting a socially sensitive topic with great precision. The makers of the hit movie dropped the teaser for the sequel to the film. The audience expressed their excitement to watch the movie.

The movie is directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, based on the previous storyline about women, alleged coercion and conversion in the state of Kerala. The makers claim the film depicts real-life incidents.
The film was scheduled to release in theatres on 27 February 2026 and got a censor certificate after a few cuts of several scenes, and changes were asked by the CBFC. The film is not cancelled or rescheduled, but a petition has been filed against it, which disrupts its smooth release.
A petition was filed in the Kerala High Court, which sought the cancellation of the censor certificate and the stop of its release. The petition says the film does not represent Kerala respectfully and certainly leads to communal disturbances in the state due to the misleading content in the film.
Several social media accounts claimed the teaser had been taken down, followed by a court order, but the makers were quick to dismiss such claims. Even the Chief Minister, Pinaraya Vijayan, criticised the film, along with many opposition leaders, who spoke against the film while many leaders in the state said blocking the film's release is curbing of freedom of speech.
During the hearing Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas said, "“Kerala lives in total harmony. But you have portrayed that this is happening all over Kerala. There is a wrong indication and it can also incite passion. That is where the censor board comes into play. Have you considered that? Normally, I do not interfere with any movie. Artistic freedom. But you are saying that it is inspired by true events and the name Kerala is given, which can create some communal tension. I will watch the movie tomorrow. You can arrange a screening.”
