CP Radhakrishnan is a senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, Governor of Maharashtra and Two-time MP from Coimbatore. He defeated opposition candidate Justice Sudershan Reddy (Retired). He is the 15th VP after the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar.
NDA’s CP Radhakrishnan becomes the 15th Vice President of India
- CP Radhakrishnan is the newly elected Vice President of India, Nominated by NDA alliance he defeated the opposition candidate Justice Sudershan Reddy (retired). He was elected with 452 first preference votes in the Electoral College.
- A total of 767 MPs casted their vote out of 788 wherein 13 MPs did not show up and refrained from voting in the election, leading to the voter turnout of 98.20%. These MPs are from parties like Biju Janata Dal, Bharath Rashtra Samithi and Shiromani Akali Dal and one non-party MP.
- The election results came after 50 days of resigning from the post of Vice President by Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar who cited health Issues and has been away from the spotlight since then. Now, CP Radhakrishnan is to assume the post of Vice president and therefore, he becomes 15th Vice President of India.
Who is CP Radhakrishnan?
- CP Radhakrishnan is a senior leader of BJP from Tamil Nadu and he was elected from Coimbatore two times and he was a member of Rajya Sabha as well. He was appointed as the governor of Jharkhand (2023), governor of Telangana (2024) and is currently the governor of Maharashtra (2024) from which he has to resign before assuming the post of Vice President.
- He has a graduation degree in BBA, played various sports in college and is an entrepreneur. He joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the age of 16 and later joined BJP. He is one of the BJP leaders from Tamil Nadu who helped the party to spread its popularity in the region.
