Singer Maithili Thakur joins BJP, to contest from Bihar’s Alinagar

Singer Maithili Thakur to contest from Bihar’s Alinagar in the state assembly election to begin from 6th November 2025. She joined the BJP on 14th October, 2025, in the presence of BJP leader Dilip Jaiswal. 

Musical sensation Maithili Thakur to contest in the Bihar election

• Born on July 25, 2000, Maithili Thakur is 25 years old and rose to fame after competing in the singing reality show Rising Star India in 2017, where she ended up as a runner-up. She started her singing videos on her YouTube channel, where she uploaded songs from various languages and renditions of songs.

• She originally belongs to the Madhubani district of Bihar, which happens to be her birthplace as well. Her family has a strong musical background with her two brothers, Rishav and Ayachi, who accompany her with tabla and her father, Ramesh Thakur, they are trained in Hindustani classical and folk music.
• She was awarded the "Cultural Ambassador of the Year" in 2024 by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, at the inaugural National Creators Award ceremony on March 8, 2024. She holds events, sings at religious and cultural events, and also posts singing videos on her YouTube Channel, which currently has 5.13 million subscribers. 
• On 14th October, 2025, she joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of leader Dilip Jaiswal, ahead of the much-awaited Bihar Elections. She is to contest in the election from the Alinagar constituency in the Darbhanga district. At the press conference, Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal referred to her as the "daughter of Mithila".
• The sitting Alinagar MLA, Mishri Lal Yadav, left the BJP, and now she is to replace her. Maithili is expected to attract more voters from the constituency due to her popularity and huge fan following, from different age groups.
