He took the oath on Tuesday; he is the first male Prime Minister after the political space was dominated by his mother, and the leader of the BNP and Awami League's Sheikh Hasina, whose government was toppled by student-led protests.
The oath was administered by Mohammed Shahabuddin, the current President of the country, at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka. Om Birla, Lok Sabha speaker, represented India at the oath as Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not make it to the event.
The Bangladeshi Prime Minister gathered and accepted Rahman as the parliamentary leader. Mohammed Yunus, the interim Prime Minister, left the office as Tarique Rahman will assume his position. As the leader of the country, he is expected to bring stability and religious tolerance in the country as the minoties continue to lose their lives at the hands of extremists.
Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Rahman may meet soon and discuss things in favour of both countries and resume the ties as in Sheikh Hasina's governance.
