IndiGO passenger’s items worth Rs. 40,000 stolen

  • A woman who recently travelled with IndiGo airlines from Mumbai to Delhi reported theft as her luggage was cut open and items worth Rs. 40,000 went missing. She took to LinkedIn and shared the details of the incident, which traumatised her and led to financial loss.
  • She shared, “Deeply disappointed with IndiGo's lack of accountability. My recent Mumbai–Delhi flight with @IndiGo resulted in THEFT, with two of my checked-in suitcases being cut open, tampered with and items worth INR 40,000 stolen.”
  • In response, IndiGo denied all the allegations of manhandling the luggage and shared that no pilferage had been recorded on the CCTV, which further escalated the issue. “We found no indication of pilferage or any irregular handling. Further, please don't hesitate to DM us in case of any other assistance required. We are here to help.” IndiGo said.
  • Here’s how the airline responded to the passenger in brief “Ms Arora, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. While we truly regret your recent experience from Mumbai to Delhi, please be assured that we take such concerns very seriously. Following a thorough investigation, including a detailed review of CCTV footage, we found no indication of pilferage or any irregular handling. As outlined in our Conditions of Carriage, we strongly advise all customers to carry their valuables in cabin baggage. Should you choose to proceed with filing a formal complaint with the appropriate authorities, we assure you that we shall provide them with the necessary support and cooperation. Further, please don’t hesitate to DM us in case of any other assistance required. We are here to help.
  • The woman who has been identified as Ritika Arora revealed,“I continue to receive the same generic response: 'No pilferage found in CCTV.' This is unacceptable when: Not all baggage areas have CCTV, staff in non-CCTV zones were never checked, theft clearly occurred, passenger safety is being ignored. Basic security of checked-in baggage is the airline's responsibility. Copy-paste replies do not resolve a serious breach like this.”
  • On sharing the incident, netizens backed her and disclosed similar incidents where airlines had refused to take accountability for the lost items during travel. One user wrote, “you are not alone this same thing happened to me a couple of years ago and I complained to indigo at Delhi airport and they said the same thing. They didn't find anything. See my post and it's the same way it happened. I lost my wedding expensive watch” and another user wrote “Indigo never accepts that this can happen in their custody. I had similar experience they said this cannot happen in their system.”
