Maithili Thakur is an Indian classical and folk Singer, YouTuber, and a young politician who hails from the Mithila region (Parts of Bihar and Jharkhand). She participated in musical reality shows, Rising Star, and Indian Idol. Her YouTube channel exhibits Musical talent and versatility. In 2025, she joined the BJP and became the face of the party from Bihar’s Alinagar.

Early Life 

• Maithili Thakur was born on July 25, 2000, in Benipatti, Madhubani district, Bihar, India, to her mother Bharti Thakur and her father Ramesh Thakur. She is named after Goddess Sita and her mother tongue, which is the Maithili language. She comes from a family of musicians, and she started her musical training at the tender age of 4. Her father is a musician and teacher, and her grandfather was also a musician. She started singing at public events like Jagraon. 

• Her family moved from Benipatti to Dwarka, New Delhi, in search of better musical opportunities. Her brothers, Rishav and Ayachi, are trained in Hindustani classical music and folk music, and they actively participate in accompanying their sister, Maithili, in her YouTube videos and performances, where Rishav plays tabla and Ayachi supports with harmonium or backup vocals. 

Her Singing Career 

• Realising her singing potential, her family made her participate in reality shows. In 2011, Maithili Thakur appeared in shows like Little Champs, Indian Idol Junior, I Genius Young Singing Star, and Rising Star. She gained popularity from YouTube, where she showcased her versatility as a singer. She sang in various languages like English, Marathi, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Bengali, and more. 
• After ending up as the first runner-up of the Rising Star, she went viral on social media, was invited to perform in high-profile national and international events. She launched an album called Ya Rabba (Universal Music) in 2016. She specialises in singing devotional songs, and her covers are viral on social media. Her recitation of Ramcharitmanas by Tulsidas is popular on YouTube and gave her channel a huge boost. She has a huge fanbase all over India. 

Entry into Politics 

In 2025, she entered politics after joining the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) just a few weeks away from the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections. In a press conference, she joined the party in the presence of Vinod Tawde. Initially, media reports suggested that she could be contesting from her native constituency of Benipatti in Madhubani district. On 14 October 2025, along with her father, representing the Thakur family joined the BJP and immediately got a ticket to contest from the Alinagar constituency in Darbhanga district. She has been actively promoting her party. Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal referred to her as the "Daughter of Mithila." She said, "I am very impressed with the PM [Narendra Modi] and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. Drawing inspiration from them, I am here to support them."

Promotion of her culture

Maithili Thakur promotes her culture through music and artistic expression, Madhubani art that originated in Bihar and her native place, always finds its place in Thakur’s way of life. She uses her social media platform to raise awareness on the need to protect these heritages that seem to be losing their popularity on the Indian subcontinent. Madhubani, Purnia, and Katihar are among those places that are known for the cultivation of Makhana. She was spotted with a bucket of makhana while meeting with the public as part of a promotion. 

Achievements 

• She is popular for her versatility and Bhajans, which made people adore her. Some of her achievements include the cultural ambassador of the year award, which she received at the National Creators Award in 2024. Ustad Bismillah Khan Uva Puraskar by Sangeet Natak Akademi, and she is the appointed brand ambassador of the Bihar State Khadi Gramodyog Board.
