Google stops all the DEI Funding. These organizations are..

Google Removes Over 50 diversity equity and Inclusion (DEI) From its public Funding list. The report has been released by the Tech observer Tech Transparency project (TTP) which claims that there are multiple reasons for the shift. Trump's executive order to stop all the Government funds for the DEI and Tech Industry’s AI Inclinations.

Google Drops Several groups and organization Amidst Trump’s order

TTP’s thorough analysis of Google's public list of organisations which is funded by the department of US Government Affairs and Public Policy found out that 58 organizations were dropped  and 214 groups were removed while 101 were added.

According to their report, a pattern is observed. Most of the dropped organisations amplified terms like Diversity, equity, inclusion, race, activism and women.
The Trump administration has repeatedly shown his disapproval over these terms, and has asked agencies to avoid them.

The DEI Funding has taken a hit under the Trump Administration as he signed an executive order to stop all the government’s DEI fundings. This ordered the federal agencies to avoid or just not use these terms at all. As per the Trump administration, these fundings are illegal.

Following the announcement, The Google’s chief people officer Fiona Cincconi stated that all the DEI related hirings have been halted and the company would only comply with federal requirements. The Anti-DEI policies are the cause.

Google’s statement and Future ventures

  • “We contribute to hundreds of groups from across the political spectrum that advocate for pro-innovation policies, and those groups change from year to year based on where our contributions will have the most impact,” The Google spokesperson José Castañeda told CNBC on the report released.
  • These Contributions were made in 2024 and somewhere excludes other fundings within the company. Therefore, The report may be incomplete.
  • The DEI commitments have significantly been hit by the executive order of Donald Trump and also by the drastic change in the IT Sector which has recently been ruled by AI. Where all the tech giants have been investing in AI related projects.
  • Apple has also made a shift in its commitments, which initially did not pay heed to Artificial Intelligence. They have set up a team to redevelop their Chatbot.
