Paramveer Chakra: Highest dedication to the motherland

Param Vir Chakra is India’s highest military honour, awarded to members of the Indian Armed Forces who have displayed indomitable courage and gallantry in the face of the enemy during combat. Instituted on January 26, 1950, this award is a symbol of the nation’s gratitude to those who display extraordinary and exemplary bravery in defense of the country’s sovereignty.

In 1947, after India gained independence, the ‘Param Vir Chakra’ was unveiled to honor the bravery of Indian soldiers in the war. In fact, on January 26, 1950, which is celebrated as the Republic Day of India, the PVC was instituted as a gallantry medal by the then President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, with retrospective effect from August 15, 1947.
