Early life and education

Neeti Mohan was born on 18 November 1979 in Delhi. She is the eldest daughter of Brij Mohan Sharma, a retired government officer, and Kusum Mohan, a homemaker. She has three younger sisters, Shakti Mohan, Mukti Mohan, and Kriti Mohan. Neeti Mohan was not only dedicated to singing but also actively participated in drama and Dance altogether. She learned music at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, performed at the Republic Day parade in Delhi for five years with her school band, and represented India in the Youth Exchange Programme cadet.
Along with music, Mohan learned dance with her sisters, particularly Bharatnatyam and Kathak, under the guidance of Ashley Lobo. She also became an instructor at his institute for a short period. She joined the Bhatkhande Music Institute and learned music from Rajshree Pathak for five years. She participated in various reality shows, which polished her singing abilities and opened the gate for opportunities.

In 2003, she participated in a singing reality show on Channel V, “Popstars”, she became one of the winners, leading to the formation of the girl group “Aasma”. Ashley Lobo, who was a choreographer for the movie Socha Na Tha (2005), referred Mohan to Imtiaz Ali for a supporting role. She says it happened by chance, and she had no plans to work in films. In 2009, she participated in Music Ka Maha Muqabla, and she was a part of the team led by Shankar Mahadevan, which eventually won.
In an A.R.Rahman show, where her dancer and choreographer sister Shakti Mohan was performing, Neeti expressed’s dream to work with the legend himself. Years later, when auditions were held to find talent to perform in his 2007 U.S concert, Neeti Mohan passed the audition.

Debut in Bollywood and further

She debuted as a playback singer in Bollywood in 2013 with Ishq waala love (Student of the Year), composed by Vishal-Shekhar. It was a duet with Salim Merchant. One of her dreams came true as she worked with A.R. Rahman for her hit song Jiya Re from Jab Tak Hai Jaan. She received her first nomination for the best singer category in the Filmfare Awards.
She sang her first Punjabi song, “Sadi Galli aaja,” composed and written by Ayushmaan Khuraana. In 2013, she did playback for Sonam Kapoor in Ranjhana, and she sang Nazar Laaye. She sang Kashmir tu mai kanyakumari for Chennai Express in the movies. Tune maare entriyaan from Gunday (2014), which is a party anthem, was sung by Neeti Mohan alongside Bappi Lahiri, K.K., and Vishal Dadlani.
