Rajinikanth is a famous actor of the Indian film industry. Apart from acting primarily in Tamil cinema, he has also worked in other Indian film industries such as Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali. His fame can be gauged from the fact that in South India, especially in Tamil Nadu, Ranjikanth is worshiped like a god.

Rajinikanth was born on December 12, 1950 in Bangalore, Mysore State (present-day Karnataka). He was born in a Marathi Hindu family, due to which his mother tongue is Marathi. In his childhood he was named Shivaji Rao Gaekwad. His mother was Jijabai Gaikwad and Ramoji Rao were his parents. His mother was a housewife and his father was a police constable. He lost his mother in his childhood itself. In 1956, when Rajinikanth’s father retired from work, his family moved to Hanumanth Nagar, a suburb of Bengaluru, and built a house there and settled there.
Rajinikanth received his early education from Gavipuram Government Kannada Model Primary School, Bengaluru. He also studied at Ramakrishna Math. After the sixth grade, Rajinikanth joined Acharya Pathshala Public School and studied there until the completion of his pre-university course. His inclination towards theater started while studying in the monastery. During his schooling at Acharya Pathshala, he spent a lot of time acting in plays.
Be a Bus Conductor Too
Rajinikanth did many small and big jobs before entering the film industry. He did many jobs including porter after completing his schooling. Later he also worked as a bus conductor in Bengaluru Transport Service.
This is how Rajnikanth got his name
While pursuing an acting course at Madras Film Institute, he was approached by Tamil film director K. Balachander’s gaze fell. Balachander changed his stage name to Rajinikanth to avoid confusion with fellow actor Sivaji Ganesan, which was taken from the name of a character in his previous film Major Chandrakant. Due to this his name became Rajnikanth.
Rajinikanth started his film career. From the Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal (1975) directed by Balachander. Since then he has acted in 169 films. His latest movie is Jailer.
